Why I do what I do
"When I left the forces back in 2003, I had very little experience in actually training using weights or bodyweight exercises. During the PT sessions you get shown how to do a push up, a pull up and those cursed burpee's, but as far actually understanding how they work and why they work and the various progressions to get to advanced strength, that was not happening. I knew I wanted to be stronger, faster and build a strong physique".
"I began to teach Wing Chun privately and qualified as a personal trainer. I believe the conditioning of people involved within martial arts and self protection is of paramount importance.
You can drill a number of techniques that will give a person the ability to defend themselves, but without a good level of fitness they will be still at a disadvantage".
"I started to learn how to train with weights, slowly building my strength up. I experimented with lots of training styles and routines and as a direct result I have a vast working knowledge of how to train the body for all manners of activities, from people who participate in sports to those want to get in shape just to enjoy everyday life that much more. I also train the trainers who get people in shape".
"My areas of interest lay in why things work! This is a direct result of my Wing Chun and combatives training. You can show someone how to do the movement but by getting them to learn key references about the exercise will greatly enhance their performance of it".
"We have recently added Krav Maga to our martial arts portfolio. This is as a level one instructor
affiliated to Israeli Krav International. "My military background now has new meaning - much of the training principles, discipline and camaraderie combine to forge our training methods and routines".
"We may not be doing square-bashing, but training with a military edge will help create a positive mind-set, a desire not to be beaten. The old fashioned KISS method".
